SACRED SILENCE

Just this morning I was thinking how sad it is that so many are uncomfortable with silence. As I was reflecting on how often I have been in the presence of those who felt the need to fill the silence with meaningless words. I enjoy watching these magnificent creatures. They lack verbal communication and rely on body language instead. They are comfortable in their silence together. I have noticed that in a good friendship as well ... many times words are unnecessary and a close friend is as comfortable sitting, enjoying the silence with you, as in engaging in meaningful conversation and playful words of fun and teasing. It is a beautiful balance.  I find the giraffe to be such a good teacher. It really teaches us the value of silence ... to think clearly and reflect; to watch and listen, and gain valuable insight that cannot be gleaned from words alone. Oftentimes words can distract the heart from taking in the silent world of wisdom. The giraffe's strong, flexible neck suggests to me balance and grace. In silence, our Creator can illuminate the heart with lofty thoughts from above and valuable insights to help strengthen us and guide us through our day. In a world of busyness and noise, it is to the benefit of each of us to learn the sacred, graceful art of silence as a part of our day. For in the absence of our own words, Creator will allow us to hear what we have been missing all along. :)
