I remember walking with Grandfather.
He wanted us to walk with him deep into the woods to sit with him and listen.
There was so much to see and so much to hear.
He wanted us to be still and listen with him.
But instead, we wanted to actively listen and explore.
Grandfather quietly watched us, his eyes smiling.
Finally he spoke to us and said,
“My young eagles, even eagles do not soar all of the time.
a time to watch and a time to hunt.
There must be balance,
for without it , even the strongest eagle will not soar long.
My young ones, you so much want to soar higher and higher on your own,
yet in your eagerness you may soon forget the importance of balance
and find yourselves crashing to the ground with wounded wing …
out of harmony with yourselves and all of creation.
To walk with beauty and soar in freedom,
you must first learn to be still and listen,
in the flight of a bird
and the trail of a deer;
in the colors of the flowers
and the bubble of a happy stream;
there is a song going forth, ascending to the sky world.
Creator’s answers are wrapped in the simplest of gifts and are all around you,
all of the time …
speaking to you …
if only you will be still enough to listen and learn of their song.
Do not turn a deaf ear towards these sacred messengers. Learn to silence yourselves and let your eyes behold their beauty as Creator whispers upon your ear. In the forest of life, you are never alone, for Creator can swoop with the greatest of ease at the sound of your cries to keep you aflight as you learn to fly with His wind as your wings.
But always remember balance.
You are only as strong - in mind, body and spirit, as you are balanced".
